For Christmas, Mom gave me something I had really been wanting…a fire pit! Well, technically, it was a joint gift to me and the dear husband. Which is good since I stink at building fires. Last night, we decided the weather was perfect for it. My sweet husband got a roaring fire going, then (after all the work was done), we gathered ’round and roasted marshmallows and enjoyed the company of our visitors. It was a wonderful night and well worth the smoky smell I woke up with.
On the way to church this morning, my girl commented that the smoke from the fire had slightly discolored her phone cover. That, of course, started a conversation about how permeating smoke is. Which leads me to my thought of the day…
I like to say that satan – the enemy of our souls – is all smoke and mirrors. He has no real power over us as children of God. But, he uses his deceptive tactics to make us think that destruction is close at hand. Or he uses his sleight of hand to blind us to the truth…sometimes enough that we actually fall into his snare of sin.
So often, when we engaged in sin, we’re doing it secretly. And we think no one knows. But, just as my girl’s phone case showed the evidence of being by the fire pit, your life will show the evidence of consorting with with enemy. His smoke will stick to you. The folks around you may not know exactly what’s going on…but they’ll know something is wrong.
So…have you been deceived into sin by satan’s smoke and mirrors? If so, you’re not alone. And there’s an answer. At the very name of Jesus, the enemy must flee. Reach out and let Him deliver you once again.
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NLT
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9 NLT
Be blessed and tell someone you love them!
