In my new job (Yay! Thank You Lord for a JOB!), I get to play with flowers. I haven’t gotten to do much yet, because I’ve been doing lots of computer-based training. Which I hate. But, Saturday, I actually got to do some designing. My first arrangement was…well, let’s just say it wasn’t my favorite. I’m rusty. I haven’t gotten to arrange regularly in a couple of years and it takes time to get back in the groove. By the time I got to the last arrangement, I was doing much better. Thankfully, there is a sweet lady who was helping me and she would quietly offer suggestions. Between us, the third arrangement I did turned out beautiful! The thing is, it didn’t turn out so good the first time I did it. In fact, I didn’t like it at all. So, I pulled the flowers out of the vase – yes, all of them! – and started over. I traded out half the flowers, the vase and some of the greenery. And asked for help from my sweet co-worker. Like I said, it turned out great!
Sometimes, life is like that. Things are going along nicely, then God adds another layer and suddenly, it’s just too much. With my flowers, I was trying to put too many into a vase that simply wouldn’t hold them. I got a bigger vase and used less flowers. But, we can’t get bigger lives. Our life – or the time given us would be a more accurate way to put it – is as expansive as it’s going to be. We all get the same twenty-four hours. So, if what God has sent your way is making your life overflow with stuff, I think it’s time to get rid of something.
As women, we think we can do it all! (I know men who suffer from that too!). Life itself seems to push you to do more, be more, have more. More isn’t always what we need. If your vase is bursting at the seams from all the flowers you’re trying to shove into it, you may need to take some out. Get before the Lord. What are you doing that He hasn’t called you to? What extra thing have you taken on that He didn’t instruct you to? Because, honestly, if you have too much to do, then….well…that’s just it – you have too much. God doesn’t give us more than what we can handle. Matthew 11:30 says, “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
What about you? Is the burden you’re carrying light? If not, consider putting something down. God won’t overload you – we do that to ourselves.
Be blessed and tell someone you love them!
