You Can’t Out Give God

Do y’all remember the post I wrote about Raemy (What’s the Difference?)?  She found out a friend at church had cancer and started selling hairbows to help raise money for medical bills.  Well, something I didn’t mention about Raemy is this….her original intent was to sell those bows to raise money to buy herself an iPod case.  Then, when she discovered that her friend Joyce’s insurance wasn’t going to cover all her cancer treatments, sweet Raemy decided she would donate her bow money to Joyce instead.  Her original goal was $2000.  The last tally I saw was well over $6000 and doesn’t seem to be slowing down!  What a difference little Raemy is making in God’s kingdom!

But, we’ve already discussed all of that.  This is a slightly different angle on the same story.  Yesterday (or today….my days tend to run together!), I saw a picture of Raemy grinning ear-to-ear – which isn’t unusual – but in her hand was a new iPod case.  The caption under the picture said an anonymous friend had given it to her.  And, it reminded me of what I already knew, of a phrase that was often used in the church that my family attended for a long time.  You can’t out give God!

Luke 6:38 says, “Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure– pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.” (NASB).  I believe Raemy has experienced this verse first hand this week.  I know I have.  Understand, it doesn’t always come back to you in the way you gave and often not in the way you planned, but God gives you exactly what you need.

I think it’s very important to point out that this isn’t just for tangible giving.  I believe the principle applies to the love, care, support and well….attitudes….you give also.  If you give love, you will get it in return.  If you give hate, you’ll get that back as well.  The world calls it karma.  I’m fine with that, as long as we can all agree that it was God’s idea all along.

The point here is…give.  Whatever it is you need, give it.  Whatever you have to give, offer it freely.  I promise God will return it in abundance.  And yes, I can promise that, because He made that promise!

Be blessed and tell someone you love them!

About meanderingswithgod

I Write. It’s what I do. It’s as vital a part of me as breathing. I write when I’m happy. I write when I’m sad. I write when I don’t understand. Or when I understand a little too clearly. I write when God’s speaking to me. And when I’m speaking to Him. And, more often than not, it comes out in rhythm and rhyme. In my words, you’ll find laughter and tears, pain and triumph, confusion and clarity. In my words, if you bother to search, you’ll find me. So, it is with both excitement and trepidation that I begin. This blog. This writing that’s been so long coming. My words. God’s words. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to tell the difference. Mine are clumsy, His are eloquent. I hope, as you read my verbal meanderings, that you’ll be blessed and find yourself searching for Him.
